Matt
WARD
President
Matt became Ward Electric’s President in the spring of 2020, after serving within the company as Vice President (eight years) and prior to that as a Superintendent. He began working for Ward Electric Company in 2006 as a CDL Groundsman while he attended college. In 2008, he started his progress towards becoming a Journeyman Lineman with Mountain States Line Constructors. In 2011, he earned his Journeyman Lineman certification. The following year, in 2012, Matt and his brother, Mark, became majority owners of Ward Electric Company, purchasing the company from their parents, Mike and Joyce, who started the company in 2005. Matt has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Exercise Science from Hastings College.
Mark

Chief Executive Officer
In 2012 Mark became CEO of Ward Electric Company. At that time, Mark and his brother, Matt became majority owners of the full-service electrical contractor, purchasing the company from their parents, Mike and Joyce, who started the endeavor in 2005. Mark began working for Ward Electric Company in September 2008 as an Office Manager. As the company continued to grow, he wore many different hats from truck driver to material procurement, gaining knowledge from front to back. Mark has degrees from Briar Cliff University and Hastings College.
Mike
SELLKE
Chief Operating Officer
Mike began in the powerline industry in 1987 as a groundman. He worked his way through the ranks serving as an Apprentice, Journeyman Lineman and Linecrew Foreman. In 1997, he started his own line construction company, eventually selling it in 2015. In January of 2017, he joined Ward Electric as a General Foreman and then became a Superintendent in 2018. He served in that role until mid-2024 when he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer. His experience provides him vast knowledge of the industry from entry level to the top with an understanding of safety practices, administration, client relationships, the union/employee dynamic, permits, budgets, etc. He is fully trained in OSHA, CPR and first aid.
Courtney
BICKFORD
Chief Financial Officer
In 2021, Courtney was named CFO at Ward Electric. She has been imperative to the company’s continued growth and served as the company’s controller since joining the Ward family in 2017. She is active in the community, assisting with HOPE and Longmont StartUp Week as well as serving on various school-related committees. Courtney has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Colorado State University and is studying to pass the certified management accounting exam.
Donald
ZARUBA
Safety Director
Donald joined the Ward Electric team in 2019. He served as the company’s tool director prior to moving into safety. Ward’s Safety Trainer is certified in First Aid, CPR, OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 as well as confined space, aerial lift and fork lift. He is currently pursuing his CUSP certification. He graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in business administration.
Joseph
CRAVATT
Superintendent – Transmission
Joseph currently serves as Ward Electric’s Transmission Superintendent, a position he has held since 2016. He has worked his way up through the ranks from lineman, to foreman to general foreman and now superintendent. Joseph got into linework in 1999 and his work has already taken him to nearly every state across the country. He is experienced with distribution, sub-transmission (34.5kV and 69kV) as well as 230kV, 345kV double bundle and triple bundle and up to 500kV. He is also helicopter and crane certified (NCCO) and has several additional certifications such as OSHA-10, OSHA-30 and first aid.
Heath
HAGEMAN
Director of Operations – C & I (Iowa)
Heath joined the Ward Electric family in 2023 as the Director of Operations in Sioux City, Iowa. Heath has over 10 years in the electrical industry. He has served customers within the tri-state area as an inside wireman, lead service electrician, foreman, and project manager/estimator. He is licensed in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa and is OSHA-10, First Aid and CPR certified.
Luke
JOHNSON
Superintendent (Colorado)
Luke began as a groundman in 2004, following his father into the industry. Four years later, he became a Journeyman Lineman and joined Ward Electric, where he served as both a foreman and a general foreman prior to becoming a superintendent. He is experienced with construction and maintenance of transmission, distribution and underground projects. In regards to transmission, he has extensive experience from 345kV down to 34.5kV, including lattice towers, myres towers, steel towers as well as wooden pole construction. For distribution, he has worked with steel, wood and laminate lines of all voltages. He is experienced with line stringing equipment including tensioners, bundle tensioners, rope puller machines and wire rope puller machines as well as production drills, backhoes, digger derricks, various cranes, trenchers, bulldozers, bucket trucks, and man baskets. Johnson is OSHA-10, OSHA ET&D, First Aid, CPR, AED, and PEC-certified and has also received additional safety training. He is also fully certified in Trenching and Shoring/Confined Space.
Scott
MONTOYA
Director of Estimating/Project Management
Scott started in the powerline industry in 2005. In 2012, he joined Ward Electric and has served the company as a journeyman lineman, a foreman, and a general foreman. In March of 2018, he became a project manager/estimator and in 2021 he became the company’s senior estimator/project manager. Then, in late 2022, he was named director of the company’s estimating/project management team.
