Joyce and Mike Ward founded Ward Electric Company in March 2005. They started with three field employees, one bucket truck, digger, pickup, homemade pole trailer, framing trailer, and wire trailer. In almost nine years, Ward Electric Company has grown to over 176 employees and 549 pieces of equipment. Joyce still retains minimal ownership in the business but prefers to enjoy time with her husband Mike, now retired, at their home in Frederick, CO. Joyce and Mike also like spending time with their 19 grandchildren.
Matt began working for Ward Electric Company in 2006 as a CDL groundsman while he attended college. He assisted in various support projects within the company from finding tools to creating solutions as needed. In 2008, he started his progress towards becoming a Journeyman Lineman with Mountain States Line Constructors. In 2011, Matt achieved Journeyman Lineman certification. The following year, in 2012, Matt and his brother Mark became co-owners of Ward Electric Company. Matt has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Exercise Science from Hastings College and lives with his daughter, Mattie in Fort Lupton, CO.
Mark began working for Ward Electric Company in September 2008 as Office Manager. As the company continued to grow he wore many different hats from truck driver to material procurement. Mark became co-owner in October 2012 with his brother Matt. Mark has a Masters Degree in Education from Hastings College. He has been married to Meg for Fourteen years and lives in Firestone, CO with his three children, Gracie (9 years), Beckam (7 years) and Bode (3 years).
Fleet Equipment Manager
Brad started working for Ward Electric Company in 2006 as a mechanic. As the company has expanded so have his responsibilities and expertise. Brad manages a staff of 6 mechanics, 3 drivers, 6 shop and yard personnel, and a tool man. He also manages and maintains a fleet of over 450 pieces of equipment. Brad lives in Wiggins, CO with his wife Jodi. They have three grown children.
Courtney is the newest member of our office team. Her prior work experiences in business management and customer relations enable her to fill her duties as controller. Courtney looks forward to the challenges of growing and evolving with such a dynamic company. Courtney and her husband Brian, also a Ward Electric Company employee, live in Longmont, CO with their 2 daughters Jillian and Madilin.
Ward Engineering: Electrical Engineer, Project Manager, Consultant
Shelley has been with Ward Electric Company since 2010. He has 35 years of electrical engineering experience in the electric utility industry as Distribution Engineer, Transmission Engineer, Substation Engineer, Manager of Operations and Engineering along with Field Engineering and COO of an electrical distribution cooperative. Shelley graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering and holds Professional Engineering Certificates in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Texas. Shelley lives on a ranch in Rye, CO with his wife, Charlene. They have one son, Tommy.
Ward Engineering: Project Consultant
Bill has over fifty-one years in the electric utility industry as Distribution Engineer, Transmission Engineer, Substation Engineer, and Assistant General Manager. For the last 31 years his experience encompassed responsibilities of General Manager and CEO. For 3 years upon retirement, he worked as Director and Instructor for Trinidad State College Line Technical Program. Bill has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Auburn University.

Ward Engineering: GIS Consultant, Field Manager
Tommy has been with Ward Electric Company since 2013. His service with Ward began originally as a contract electric meter reader. Tommy has since become involved in multiple facets of electrical engineering such as GIS, field staking, drafting, distribution line design, and various other aspects of work with Ward Engineering. He is trained in AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, TerraSync and GPS Pathfinder Office Software.
Tommy holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Colorado State University in Pueblo.
Commercial and Industrial General Foreman
Dustin has worked for Ward Electric Company for two and a half years. Dustin completed his apprenticeship through IBEW Local Union 68 in Denver, CO and obtained his journeyman license. After ten years in the industry he obtained his master’s license and started with Ward Electric in June of 2015.
Dustin is currently licensed in Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Montana.
Project Manager and Estimator
Scott Montoya started in the powerline industry in 2005. He has been employed with Ward Electric Company for 8 years.
While employed with us, Scott has been a journeyman lineman, a foreman, and a general foreman. Beginning in March 2018, Scott takes on a new role as project manager/estimator.
